The edited highlights of Mark Kobayashi-Hillary talking about the launch of his new book Talking Outsourcing on October 1 at London South Bank University in central London. Mark opens by discussing the recession, as money is thrown over the audience. He plays football with the audience when discussing the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. He changes shirt four times during the presentation, and he ends up serving McDonalds food to the audience when talking about self-service outsourcing from the cloud. The globalisation and migration expert, Philippe Legrain, and BPO Strategy Director of French hi-tech service firm Steria, Hilary Robertson, joined Mark at this presentation. Talking Outsourcing is the new book by Mark Kobayashi-Hillary. The book launch took place at London South Bank University on October 1 2009 featuring Hilary Robertson, BPO Strategy Director of Steria, the author Philippe Legrain, and Mark Kobayashi-Hillary. The evening was introduced and hosted by Angelica Mari from Computing magazine. The National Outsourcing Association arranged the event in partnership with Steria. Business Process Outsourcing is an emerging industry in Africa. This film looks at the various issues and opportunities facing the BPO sector in Kenya from the perspectives of one of Kenya’s BPO CEO and three young women entrepreneurs who created a BPO start-up. A pressing challenge affecting the competitiveness of Africa’s BPO companies is the cost of high speed connectivity. The World Bank’s US4 million Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (RCIP) aims to address this issue by extending access to affordable high speed connectivity to as many as 25 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. www.worldbank.org/connectingafrica

The World Bank’s eghana project is supporting the Government of Ghana in its development of the ICT sector which seeks to generate growth and employment by leveraging ICT and public-private partnerships to develop the Information Technologies Enabled Services (ITES) industry.
